Port MacKenzie Barge Haulout, Topobathymetric Survey

R&M completed a multibeam and aerial drone survey at Port MacKenzie to support construction of a 300’ x 200’ barge haulout ramp at the north end of the Port MacKenzie in-water fill. The survey included underwater areas, tidal mud flats and riprap, and some upland areas. R&M coordinated data acquisition with active port operations and with tidal windows to ensure topographic and bathymetric dataset overlapped in the wide soft mud flats in the intertidal area.

R&M merged drone orthographic elevations with bathymetric elevations to produce a seamless topobathymetric elevation surface for the purpose of engineering and design of a barge landing ramp. Deliverables included a single topobathymetic surface, characterized in AutoCAD format with elevation contours.

Built to handle flat-keeled barges, landing craft, tugs, and small-to-medium commercial vessels, the barge ramp is expected to significantly increase barge landings and loadings at Port MacKenzie.
