R&M is leading the collaborative development of an updated Comprehensive Recreational Trails Plan for the Fairbanks North Star Borough. This Plan is the primary decision-making tool guiding allocation of available resources for trails for the next 10-20 years. As part of this update, our team completed an extensive inventory of the existing trail system, public access and trail attributes documented in narrative and GIS feature classes. We filled in data gaps using information gathered through public engagement, crowdsourced data and on-the-ground field investigation through development of an interactive ArcGIS StoryMap.
R&M built an online interactive map to collect geolocated comments and input from the public, including existing trail conditions and desired routes. The essential information gathered served as the base for final trail alignments recommended in the Updated Trails Plan.
