Chanshtnu Park is a newly dedicated community park located in the heart of east Anchorage’s Muldoon neighborhood. R&M worked with the community to develop a Master Plan that represents a 20-year vision to transform an old greenhouse property into a space that embodies the potential of what residents have wanted for Muldoon: a destination and escape from the everyday urbanism of a modern, last frontier city. The park’s 26.74 acres is now built-out with a skating and biking ribbon, inclusive play equipment, dirt pump track, community garden and food forest, and dog park, along with nature trails along the South Fork of Chester Creek.

Chanshtnu Park is a gathering space that residents have worked passionately and tirelessly to preserve within the context of development pressures. The plan, design and build approach fit the community’s needs for a new park in a transitional context within an expedited timeframe to meet grant funding constraints.

Chantshnu Park vision becomes reality as a new community space for neighbors to gather, play and enjoy access to natural spaces within the commercial heart of Anchorage’s east side.
Chantshnu Park Master Plan design concept capturing the community’s vision and history through flexible spaces, a winter skating ribbon, farmer’s market and a gathering pavilion next to Chester Creek.
