R&M provided environmental support for a bridge replacement project along the historic Denali Highway. An environmental document was started and approved in less than three months to meet DOT&PF’s expedited schedule. Section 106 consultation was initiated immediately to meet required review and concurrence timelines from the SHPO and other consulting parties. The R&M team evaluated Rock Creek Bridge, Denali Highway, and multiple other historical and archaeological sites and districts for potential effects. Location hydraulic studies and potential floodplain impacts, a field wetland delineation, as well as a Section 4(f) resource summary, were prepared to support the environmental document.
The Denali Highway provides a historic and archaeological glimpse of the Last Frontier. This project preserved access across Rock Creek near the highway’s eastern end.
