R&M provided special inspection services for structural components of the addition and upgrades to the existing structure. Our involvement began with subgrade inspections during excavation for the foundation elements in the new addition area and continued through final completion of the wood framing in areas where the addition connected to the existing structure. R&M’s work included bottom of hole inspections, inspections during placement of structural backfill, reinforcing steel inspections for concrete and CMU, inspections during concrete placement, adhesive anchors placement inspection and wood framing inspections. This project was primarily a wood framed structure above grade, and the existing areas that were renovated did not meet current IBC requirements. As the structural components of an area were uncovered, R&M inspectors evaluated the condition of those members and communicated the information to the structural engineer of record.

R&M’s inspectors were in daily communication with the structural engineer of record and the construction contractor’s team in an intensive effort to document the daily changes occurring on-site for Anchorage School District representatives.

Use of the existing utilidors was critical for the addition of new structural members.
