Former R&M intern Terry Gryting, EIT recently joined R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) as a full-time Staff Engineer.

Terry joined R&M’s Water Resources Group in May 2017, after graduation from the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. As part of this group, she will assist with water resources design, and provide hydrologic and hydraulic analysis support on roadway, street, airport, site development and hydropower projects. Her responsibilities include calculation and estimation of peak and average runoff and stream flow; calculation of drainage structure hydraulics; analysis of scour and sediment transport; design of erosion control; and hydrologic and hydraulic data collection.

Terry has worked with R&M as an intern since January 2017. As an intern, she also worked with the Water Resources Group, assisting with watershed basin studies, flood frequency analyses and culvert design, including on the Dalton Highway MP 209-235 Reconstruction and Seward Highway MP 100-105 3R Improvements.

Since joining R&M full-time, Terry has continued to work on these types of projects. She is currently working on the Seward Highway MP 17-22.5 Rehabilitation, where she has been responsible for delineating watershed basins and documenting drainage patterns, and the Kalifornsky Beach Road MP 9.6 Repairs, where she delineated the watershed basin, conducted flood frequency analyses, and assisted with culvert and riprap design

“From the first day I entered the office, I was immediately attracted to the professionalism of the employees, the environment and the company’s commitment to high quality work. I like that R&M is Alaskan-based. I am looking forward to working in the Water Resources Group, tackling challenging projects and learning as much as I can along the way.”

In addition to her degree from UAA, Terry has a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A.A. in Teaching Spanish, both from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She moved to Alaska with her husband in 1995 for an adventure, planning to only stay two to three years, and never left. Terry enjoys Alaska’s Native cultures and the small-town feel of the state, and loves the Alaskan outdoors, including the majestic mountains and climate. She spends her time cross-country skiing, dipnetting, hiking and with her family at their cabin near Willow. Last summer Terry hiked the historic 33-mile Chilkoot Trail near Skagway, with her husband and two teenage children. She plans to enjoy more of the Alaskan outdoors this summer, camping, hiking and spending time at the family cabin.
