R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) has added welding inspection to their line of services with the addition of Justin Keplar, CWI to their Anchorage office team.

Justin is an American Welding Society (AWS) certified welding inspector (CWI). He joined R&M’s Materials Laboratory and Special Inspection Department as a Special Inspector in March 2016. With the addition of Justin to the R&M team, the firm is able to offer welding inspections in-house. This will streamline the firm’s special inspection services and help clients save time and money by having a single person available to mobilize to a project to perform all needed inspection services, including welding inspections.

“I am excited to integrate Justin into our Special Inspections team, as well as having him available to support our Construction Administration Department. Justin’s CWI work experience is extensive and I can confidently say he brings all the experience and certifications necessary to build the foundation for a successful welding inspection team here at R&M. Due to Justin’s unique combination of certifications, experience and attitude, we have the ability to overcome any challenge we face on our projects.”

Mike Wariner, PE – Vice President, Materials Lab and Special Inspection

Justin brings a wealth of experience to the R&M team. He has more than eight years of special inspection experience and is experienced in International Code Council (ICC) Special inspections, AWS observations and weld testing, and field observation reporting/NCR and resolution. He has also provided inspections of structural steel, high strength bolting, structural masonry, structural concrete, reinforcing steel, wood framing and post installed anchors. Justin’s experience includes providing welding inspections for numerous projects, including a large diameter transmission pipe for Aurora Prairie Waters in Denver, a 5 million gallon water storage tank for Cherry Creek Water Authority in Brighton, Colorado, a training facility for the U.S. Air force in Colorado Springs, and structural stair towers fabrication for the University of California Davis. In addition, Justin was involved in the bridge maintenance program for the Colorado Department of Transportation, providing inspection and UT evaluation of bridge pins. He has also provided ICC special inspections for the Engineering 2 Building and Advanced Beam Laboratory at Colorado State University, and Breckenridge Resort Peak 7 Grand Lodge.

“It is my responsibility as a CWI to first understand my role in the assigned project and then diligently perform my duties with the highest attention to detail. Although some have described welding as an imperfection between two perfect materials, welding provides structural integrity. Just about everything around us, from the chairs we sit on at our desks to the buildings we work in, bridges we drive on and pipelines that deliver fuel, depends on sound welds. Visual inspection is the most common examination in the determination of sound welds. I look forward to expanding R&M’s services in the examination of metals and welding to provide exceptional service to new and existing clients.”

Justin Keplar, CWI – Special Inspector

In addition to his certification as a CWI, Justin is an ICC/International Building Code Certified Special Inspector, Municipality of Anchorage Certified Special Inspector, American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician I, and American Society for Nondestructive Testing level 2 Visual Testing and SNT-TC-1A qualified level 2 Ultrasonic Testing Technician.
