Michael Bell has joined R&M as a Planner in the firm’s Planning Department. Michael will support planning and community engagement efforts for a variety of community plans, facilities and infrastructure projects.

“It’s always fun and fulfilling to mentor young career professionals like Michael who value meaningful work, are looking for an adventure and are eager to learn everything the planning profession in Alaska offers. Michael took a chance on us at R&M and on Alaska. He’s dived in headfirst and has added so much value to our work in transportation, community development, rural community planning, and parks and trails.”

Van Le, AICP – R&M’s Department Manager of Planning

A recent transplant from Wisconsin, Michael has one year of planning and public involvement experience. This includes parks and trail planning, in which he worked on development of the Green Bay cultural trail. Michael worked with the City of Green Bay to create an initial mission statement, route maps and a long-term plan for the creation of the trail. He also has experience in GIS, SketchUp, CADD design and drafting that complement communication tools for planning. Michael is proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite and has conducted AutoCAD space planning and ADA compliance assessment of building layouts.

Since joining R&M, Michael has supported multiple land use and transportation planning projects in Anchorage and communities within the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, Dillingham, Levelock, Aleknagik, Koliganek, Ekwok, New Stuyahok and Unalaska. These include the MOA Downtown Streets Engineering Study, Kenai Peninsula Borough Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, Municipality of Anchorage Recreational Trails Plan Update and Kodiak ADA Rezanof Drive Improvements.

“I joined R&M to advance my professional career and explore interesting and remote places. I’m really enjoying the friendly people and work life balance, as well as the ability to really see Alaska from an in-depth firsthand perspective.”
