Every year during the Christmas season, R&M participates in the Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family program. This program matches families with special circumstances with individual or group sponsors to provide for their tangible needs at Christmas.

R&M has participated in this program since 2011.

“As part of our giving plan, we had made a decision to participate in one significant community activity per quarter and were looking for something for the winter. The Adopt-a-Family program provides an opportunity for R&M to give back to our community on a very impactful local basis, which is an important element of our giving plan.”

This year R&M sponsored a family of five, two parents and three young children. We were responsible for providing items on the family’s wish list, which includes clothing and household items, shoes, cold weather gear and toys for the kids. Employees pitched in, either purchasing an item from the family’s wish list or donating money. They showed enormous generosity this year. By the end of our drive we had collected more than $1,800, were able to provide the family everything on their list and more, as well as a $500 gift card for groceries.

“It is truly heartwarming to know we are making a significant difference for a family in our community.”

The Adopt-a-Family program helped 75 families have a merry Christmas in 2015. If you’d like more information about the program, visit the Salvation Army Website at www.salvationarmyalaska.org/alaska/adopt.
