Human Resources Generalist
In A Nutshell
R&M is looking for a team-oriented Human Resources Generalist to work closely with R&M’s Business Services team to administer and/or support a variety of Human Resources functions, including recruiting, onboarding, compliance, employee record maintenance and personnel actions.
This is an in-person position in R&M’s Anchorage office. The position will require occasional travel to university recruiting events in Anchorage, Fairbanks and selected Western states.
The Human Resources Generalist will be expected to actively participate and represent R&M in professional organizations (such as the Society for Human Source Management) and community activities.
The Human Resources Generalist will report to the Chief Marketing and Administrative Officer.
On Any Given Day
On a typical day, the Human Resources Generalist will:
RECRUITING
- Work as part of a collaborative team to develop and implement a sustainable recruiting program that attracts a diverse pool of qualified talent for the organization.
- Work with Business Services team and hiring managers to develop and maintain standard position descriptions.
- Communicate details of open positions, requirements and company benefits at career fairs at local universities and universities in select Western states.
- Post job openings on applicable recruiting websites.
- Receive, perform initial screening, distribute and log employment applications.
- Assist hiring managers in scheduling job interviews.
- Participate in and/or observe interviews.
- Draft offer of employment letters.
- Assist new hires with completion of pre-hire paperwork.
- Set-up new employee files.
- Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Schedule and participate in new hire orientation.
- Collaborate with Business Services team and perform accurate data entry to ensure new employees are properly entered into the Vantagepoint database and benefit portals with accurate information pertaining to employee information, compensation and benefits.
- Collaborate with Business Services team to track and administer referral bonus program.
EMPLOYEE RECORD MAINTENANCE AND COMPLIANCE
- Administer health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations.
- Maintain employee files, including ensuring completion of Employee Status Change forms for personnel actions. Ensure completion and accuracy of details pertaining to employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure and other key details.
- Assist with Employee Development Plan process, including annual tracking and ensuring EDPs are saved in employee files.
- Prepare mandatory reporting and conduct record audits, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, OSHA filings, payroll audits and other compliance reviews.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices to R&M senior management team.
- Collaborate with R&M Business Services team to ensure company policies are current with human resources legislation and best practices.
- Collaborate with R&M senior management team to promote DEI principles in R&M’s hiring and employment practices.
CLIENT SERVICE
- Plan and/or support company-wide informational meetings, such as open enrollment and meetings to announce or discuss changes in retirement or benefit plans.
- Provide responsive employee/client service to answer employee questions and requests.
PERSONNEL ACTIONS
- Collaborate with hiring managers to develop and execute an efficient process for hiring and terminating seasonal employees.
- Ensure completion of necessary documents, including exit interview forms, for terminated employees.
- Support Business Services team and hiring managers in administering and executing human resources programs, including, but not limited to compensation, benefits and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Maintain a neutral, professional demeanor while attending and participating in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations and investigations.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or a related field.
- Have a minimum of five years of related experience.
- Possess a working understanding of human resources principles, best practices and procedures.
- Be organized, detail oriented and committed to quality.
- Be able to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Possess good interpersonal abilities for working in a dynamic, professional team environment and promoting the firm at career fairs.
- Be skilled in conflict resolution.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Be committed to providing professional, responsive services to R&M’s employee clients.
- Possess a valid Alaska’s driver’s license.
Preference will be given to applicants with the following:
- SHRM-CP credential.
- Completion of DEI certificate program.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
