Accounting Coordinator
In A Nutshell
R&M is looking for a team-oriented Accounting Coordinator to support expansion of our Accounting Group.
As a member of the R&M team, the Accounting Coordinator will support the firm’s accounting group and other professional staff by coordinating daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial record keeping, and maintaining smooth accounting workflows across the organization. The Accounting Coordinator will provide exemplary personalized services to the Accounting Group’s internal clients: the Construction Services, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Geomatics and Planning Departments within R&M. As a member of the Accounting Group, the successful applicant will work with other accounting professionals and inter-departmentally within the company to support accounting tasks.
R&M distinguishes itself by providing high quality work products (including accounting work products) that meet the needs of our internal and external clients and facilitate their goals and business targets.
This is an in-person position.
The Accounting Coordinator will be expected to actively participate and represent R&M in professional organizations and community activities.
The Accounting Coordinator will report to the Accounting Supervisor.
On Any Given Day
On a typical day, the Accounting Coordinator will:
- Record, classify and summarize financial transactions in the general ledger.
- Verify accuracy of vendor invoices for approval and payment processing. This includes maintaining AP files, W-9 forms and responding to payment inquiries.
- Process cash receipts, including receiving and recording client payments, and preparing bank deposits and reconciliations.
- Participate in project database maintenance and recordkeeping, including maintaining contract, vendor, employee and project invoice files within Deltek Vantagepoint, as well as within project files.
- Process Expense Reports, including reviewing and processing employee expense reports, and reviewing and reconciling monthly credit card expense reports.
- Perform other GL accounting and administrative-related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and two to five years of accounting experience. The ideal candidate will either be actively enrolled in or have completed a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related business program. Applicants should possess a strong aptitude for numbers and analytical mindset, with the ability to identify discrepancies and solve problems. This role handles a large volume of accounting records and requires strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
It is preferred that applicants have accounts payable and billing experience specific to the A/E/C industry. Experience with the Deltek Vantagepoint or a similar ERP system is preferred.
Applicants should have good attention to detail and be able to work independently. All candidates should be skilled in Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as Adobe Acrobat. All candidates should have good interpersonal abilities for working in a dynamic team environment, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must have a valid Alaska driver’s license.
