This summer, 17 interns joined R&M across our Engineering, Planning, Geomatics and Construction Services departments, bringing fresh perspective, curiosity and energy to the work we do. These students and early-career professionals are gaining real-world experience while supporting projects that shape Alaska’s infrastructure and communities.
Interns are contributing in meaningful ways, whether assisting with runway inspections, modeling roadway designs, drafting planning graphics, testing soils and concrete, or surveying in remote locations. Their involvement goes beyond observation, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to active fieldwork and design efforts.
R&M’s internship program is designed to align with a student’s academic progress and interests. Sophomores typically begin in the materials lab, learning the basics of construction support. As they advance, interns may move into construction administration, geotechnical fieldwork, surveying or design engineering roles — gaining experience that reflects their education and aspirations. In many cases, these internships evolve into lasting careers. Several current R&M team members started out as interns themselves.
We offer internships in every discipline we practice, and actively recruit from Alaska universities like the University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Fairbanks. In addition to hands-on work, our interns benefit from professional mentorship, opportunities for travel and a supportive team environment.
