R&M developed the site design for DOT&PF/DMVA in support of this 22,670 SF, $17 million Alaska Air National Guard Readiness Facility. We provided civil, geotechnical and survey services for embankment and site design needs of the Alaska National Guard vehicle parking in the challenging arctic permafrost conditions. The project included a specialized embankment design for the site backfill with local soils in the Bethel area and a passive cooling system to stabilize the building foundation on permafrost. Site security and fencing was implemented to the meet stringent federal requirements for Anti-Terrorism Force Protection.
R&M performed a comprehensive civil site assessment and developed a conceptual site improvement plan for Spring Hill Elementary School, originally constructed in the mid-1980s. After evaluating and documenting the condition of exterior site facilities, the R&M team developed site improvement alternatives to address site deficiencies. With client coordination, a recommended alternative was developed to improve pedestrian access, relieve vehicle/pedestrian conflicts while making bus and parent pick-up and drop-off more efficient, improve site drainage, and bring the site up to current Anchorage School District standards.
R&M performed civil design services for the new UAA Sports Arena located on the corner of Providence Drive and Elmore Road. The project will ultimately construct a 5,000-seat arena, including major site and roadway improvements to support year-round access to the new facility. R&M supported the project team from the initial concept level designs into the construction phase, providing civil design services for the roadway access network, site work with parking layout, surface water drainage, major utility service connections, and cooling water well construction.
