Welcome to R&M’s Newsletter: A Word From Our CEO

LStory Old Stepping into the CEO role is very humbling for me. I still remember my very first day at R&M, more than 37 years ago. I was 18 years old and just a week out of high school when my parents provided me with a one-way ticket to Alaska for my high school graduation present. Like most teenagers, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do after high school, but I knew the remoteness and adventure Alaska offered was for me. Fortunately, I was given an opportunity to work at R&M as a rear chainman and brush cutter on a survey crew. My first project was a State cadastral survey located near Glennallen. Over the past 37 years, I have traveled to the far reaches of Alaska and most places in-between. I have seen some amazing sites and have been fortunate to work on some very unique and challenging projects with interesting and exceptional individuals.

It is an incredible honor for me to lead and serve this great company of ours. Through the help of many talented individuals, we have built a solid reputation as one of Alaska’s premier professional services consulting firms. We have grown from a sole proprietor focused on geotechnical engineering to a more than 135-person multi-discipline firm. Unlike many of our competitors, 100% of R&M’s staff is based in Alaska – proof that our commitment to this great state is strong.

We have leaders at every level within our firm, not just at the top. My responsibility is to give them the voice and authority to exercise the empowerment they naturally have and to ensure they have the tools they need to be successful.

I want to emphasize the commitment I have for R&M and the passion I have in what we do, who we are and what sets us apart from our competitors; which is our people and their uncompromised pursuit of quality, value and outstanding client service.

As part of our ongoing growth, we’re excited to launch our inaugural e-newsletter, which is specifically designed to keep you in touch with the people, services and projects at R&M. I hope you find it informative, as well as entertaining.

We have signed you up for our newsletter in the hopes that you will find great value in its content and that it will keep you informed of the happenings around R&M. If you ever find that what we present is not for you, simply click ‘unsubscribe’ at the bottom of the email.

I truly believe we have built a strong foundation at R&M by supporting the personal and professional growth of our people and through our unwavering commitment to Alaska. As the newest CEO at R&M, I can’t ask for a better foundation on which to build our future.
