In A Nutshell

R&M is looking for a team-oriented staff geologist to support expansion of our fast-paced Geosciences Group. The staff geologist will support geotechnical and environmental projects, both in the field and in the office.

This is an on-site position, with occasional travel to project sites throughout Alaska. Field projects typically last from a few days to a few weeks, with travel to any corner of Alaska.  

The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate and represent R&M in professional organizations and community activities.

The staff geologist will report to the Geosciences Group Manager. Project work may also be supervised by other senior staff, depending on project team structure.

On Any Given Day

On a typical day, the staff geologist will support geotechnical and geology projects and coordinate with concurrent environmental permitting and contaminated sites investigations projects. Tasks may include:

  • Subsurface investigation and site characterization
  • Chemical sampling
  • Material site assessment
  • Geologic mapping
  • Engineering geology
  • Aerial photo interpretation
  • Executing environmental or geotechnical field investigations
  • Technical report writing and data analysis

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Geology
  • 0 to 5 years of related experience as a geologist or environmental scientist

All candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds and have a valid Alaska driver’s license. Candidates should possess good interpersonal abilities and demonstrate the ability to perform physically demanding field work in remote locations.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of contaminated sites experience
  • Understanding of ADEC/EPA contaminated sites regulation.
  • ADEC Qualified Environmental Professional (18 AAC 75.333 / 18 AAC 78.088)
  • GIS experience
  • MS Excel coding experience
  • gINT/BoreDM experience
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER
