R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. is a well-established, employee-owned multi-discipline Alaskan firm specializing in cold regions civil engineering. Since 1969, R&M has participated in some of Alaska’s most significant and technically challenging infrastructure projects. The firm’s experience includes waterfront engineering for a variety of clients throughout Alaska, including the Alaska Railroad Corporation, Port of Anchorage, City of Homer, City of Seward, City of Valdez, and Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, among others. Recent and ongoing work includes the Seward Small Boat Harbor Float Replacement, Port of Anchorage Engineering Services Term Agreement, Seward Marine Industrial Center Coastal Engineering, City of Homer Port and Harbor Engineering Services, Alaska Railroad Corporation Seward Marine Terminal Expansion, City of Valdez New Harbor Development, and Kodiak Ferry Terminal and Dock Improvements.

R&M is currently seeking a team-oriented Project Engineer to support expansion of our Waterfront Engineering Group.

As a member of the R&M team, the Project Engineer will be responsible for civil and structural design of port and harbor development projects, including docks, wharfs, marina float systems, boat launch and barge loading ramps, breakwaters and erosion control projects. This may include civil and structural analysis, coastal modeling, dredging design, corrosion protection, water and sewer utilities, and other upland site development associated with these projects. Duties will include occasional field work for pre-design condition assessments and construction site inspections.

The successful applicant will be expected to represent R&M and actively participate in professional organizations and community activities.

The Project Engineer will report to the Waterfront Engineering Group Manager, and to a Senior Project Engineer on a day-to-day basis and/or act as task leader, depending on team organization for specific projects.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and 5 to 10 years of experience in waterfront and/or structural design work. Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel are required. Additional software skills, including MathCAD, RISA, SAP2000, SWAN or coastal modeling packages such as MIKE21 or other DHI modules, are desirable. All candidates should have good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment, and strong written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and detail oriented. Alaskan PE required or able to obtain by reciprocity.
