Since 1969, R&M has participated in some of Alaska’s most significant and technically challenging projects. R&M’s Earth Sciences Department is a leading provider of environmental and geological/geotechnical services to public and private clients throughout Alaska.

R&M is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our well-respected Environmental Services Group. Anticipated responsibilities for environmental compliance tasks including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) impact analysis, regulatory permitting, environmental baseline monitoring, Phase I/II ESAs and general contaminated sites work, storm water management, and other related office and field-based environmental services. The Environmental Specialist will report to the Group Manager of Environmental Services.

The successful applicant will have proven experience in NEPA compliance and implementation. Experience with various Federal agencies and Federal Actions is preferred. Knowledge and application of permitting regulations is required. The applicant should be familiar with permitting processes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, and others. Experience with Endangered Species Act, Section 4(f), and Section 106 consultation is preferred. Field work is common and may include general site visits, wetland field checks, bird nest clearances, marine mammal observations, Phase I ESA site visits, construction monitoring for contamination, storm water inspections, etc.

The Environmental Specialist will work under the supervision of the Group Manager: Environmental Services in close coordination with other team members.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a B.S. in Environmental/Natural Science or related discipline with five years of professional experience, although more experienced applicants are encouraged to inquire. CESCL certification, wetland delineation experience, and knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations is preferred. The successful applicant will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively prioritize workloads to respond to client needs efficiently and effectively. This position will be based in our Anchorage office, with the opportunity to travel throughout Alaska for generally short periods of time, in all seasons. Applicant must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be ready to perform field work as required.
