R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. is a well-established, employee-owned multi-discipline Alaskan professional services firm. Since 1969, R&M has participated in some of Alaska’s most significant and technically challenging infrastructure projects. Our construction administration experience includes construction oversight and administration for airport, highway and waterfront improvements, as well as structural vertical and industrial construction projects. We offer these services to a variety of clients including the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility, Federal Highway Administration and many municipal governments.

R&M is currently seeking an Engineering Associate to supplement Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) compliance staff within our Construction Administration Department.

As a member of the R&M team, the Engineering Associate will be responsible for performing SWPPP inspections as the Owner’s Representative, often jointly with a qualified representative of the construction contractor for the project. The Engineering Associate will be required to sign inspection forms. Additional responsibilities will include review of the project SWPPP to applicability and constructability in relation to specific project conditions. The Engineering Associate will also be responsible for review of all logs and reports required as part of the SWPPP, including, but not limited to: daily record of rainfall, SWPPP amendment log, grading and stabilization log, corrective action log, delayed action report and training log.

On a daily basis, the Engineering Associate will report to the Project Engineer or designated representative of the Project Engineer, with emphasis on reporting the status of all elements of the project with regard to SWPPP compliance or non-compliance. The Engineering Associate will submit daily activity reports as required by the Project Engineer.

The Engineering Associate will also perform other duties as assigned, including keeping daily records of time and materials work, and inspection of other items of work as assigned by the Project Engineer. The Engineering Associate will also assist with office engineering, including, but not limited to checking quantity calculations, checking certified payroll and other duties as assigned.

Travel within Alaska will be required, and the ideal candidate must be willing to work in project locations throughout the state for extended periods of time during construction season. This work is seasonal and typically requires overtime hours.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have two to five years of SWPPP field experience. Experience on federally-funded (FHWA, FAA) DOT&PF projects a plus. Current certification as an Alaska Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (AK-CESCL) is required. Good basic math and communication skills are required. A High School Diploma or equivalent and valid Alaska Driver’s License are required. All candidates should have good interpersonal abilities for working with client owners and contractors within a dynamic team environment.
