Description
of project:
Detailed topographic, planimetric and boundary information
was collected to support our in-house engineering design
effort for the Nome Glacier Creek Road project. Our Right-of-Way
department will handle the continuing and extensive Right-of-Way
services involved with the project.
Primary horizontal control was established using Static
GPS techniques with four Trimble 4800 dual frequency receivers,
and one Trimble 5700 dual frequency receiver. The GPS vectors
were free adjusted by simultaneous least squares methods
using Trimble Geomatics Office software.
The project vertical datum is based on ties to 1993 photo
control provided by DOT. Seven of the original twenty photo
control marks were recovered, and the project datum was chosen
by holding a control mark that best-fit the recovered control.
Project elevations were established and verified using differential
leveling techniques. Orthometric heights were derived from
the project control using the geoid model GEOID99AK.
The topographic and planimetric information was collected
using a combination of GPS RTK and conventional surveying
techniques.
The resulting base mapping included six miles of detailed
topographic and planimetric design surveys. This survey also
included the recovery of over 60 monuments and more than
twenty mineral claims. The continuing Right-of-Way services
will involve extensive mapping and Right-of-Way support for
over six miles of new roadway.
